Stefan Bauernschuster is Professor of Public Economics at the University of Passau. He is also a Research Professor at the ifo Institute Munich. Before moving to Passau, Stefan Bauernschuster was deputy head of the research area Social Policy and Labour Markets at the ifo Institute Munich. He holds a PhD from the Friedrich-Schiller-University of Jena, where he was part of the DFG research group "Economics of Innovative Change", a joint PhD program of the University of Jena and the Max Planck Institute of Economics. Previously, Stefan Bauernschuster studied at the University of Passau and the University of Exeter (UK).
Bauernschuster's research deals with topics in applied microeconomics with a focus on labor, population, and education economics. His works are published in journals such as American Economic Journal: Economic Policy, Journal of the European Economic Association, Journal of Public Economics, Journal of Population Economics, Journal of Economic Behavior and Organization, or Journal of Economic Geography. Stefan Bauernschuster has also worked on several policy consulting projects for federal ministries.
He is affiliated with CESifo and a member of the committee for social policy of the German Economic Association (Verein fuer Socialpolitik).
