Michael Grimm holds an MA in Economics from the University of Frankfurt and an MA in Population Economics and PhD in Development Economics both from Sciences-Po Paris. He held positions at the World Bank (2003), the University of Göttingen (2003-2007) and the Erasmus University Rotterdam (2007-2012) before joining the economics department of the University of Passau in 2012, where he holds the chair for development economics. His research covers problems related to poverty and growth such as education, health and informal labour markets including the evaluation of policy interventions in these domains.
Michael Grimm is also affiliated Professor at Erasmus University Rotterdam, a Research Professor at the German Institute of Economic Research (DIW) and a IZA Research Fellow. He is a founding member of the Rotterdam Global Health Initiative and a member of the European Development Research Network (EUDN). He has published in journals such as the Journal of Development Economics, Economics of Education Review, Health Economics and the Journal of the Royal Statistical Society.
