Peter Welzel studied economics at the University of Augsburg (Diplom 1984) and public administration and economics at Harvard University (MPA 1986). He got his doctoral degree and his post-doctoral habilitation degree from the University of Augsburg and held temporary professorships at the University of Munich and the University of Augsburg. He was a tenured professor for empirical methods at the University of Jena and has held the chair for Industrial Economics and Economic Policy at the University of Augsburg since 2000. His research interests are in the industrial economics of financial services, the economics of the information economy, and in international economics. He has published among others in the Journal of Banking and Finance, the Journal of Productivity Analysis, and Small Business Economics.
Peter Welzel was Chairman of the Faculty of Business Administration and Economics and has been serving in several committees at the department and university level. He is also Academic Director of the University of Augsburg´s Executive MBA Program, member of the academic council of the German Economic Association of Business Administration (GEABA), and serves as a visiting professor of economics at the Université de Rennes I.
